Rosé Wine

Rosé wine has experienced an extraordinary evolution in recent years, becoming an essential category for those seeking freshness, versatility, and a relaxed style. With its characteristic color —from pale Provence-style tones to more intense rosés— this type of wine offers an aromatic range that combines red fruit, flowers, and refreshing nuances. At Wine Palace, we select national and international rosé wines made with care, standing out for their balance, elegance, and ability to accompany a wide variety of moments and dishes. Nowadays, rosé wine is no longer just a seasonal option: its quality, diversity, and style have established it as a perfect alternative for appetizers, informal meals, celebrations, or outdoor enjoyment. From light and delicate rosés to more gastronomic versions with structure and volume, there is a rosé for every occasion.

Rosé wine production

Rosé wine production combines elements of red and white wine, but with specific techniques aimed at obtaining a fresh and delicate expression. The key lies in the time the must stays in contact with the skins: a short maceration —usually a few hours— allows extracting just the right color and certain aromatic compounds, without reaching the intensity of a red wine. There are three main methods: direct pressing rosé, saignée rosé, and blending (allowed only in some countries). In direct pressing, very pale and elegant rosés are obtained, while saignée produces wines with more color and structure thanks to a slightly longer maceration. After fermentation, rosés are mostly made in stainless steel tanks to preserve their fresh aromas, although some producers opt for brief aging on lees to add texture and complexity. The result is a vibrant, aromatic, and balanced wine that reflects both the grape’s quality and the winemaker’s intention.

History of rosé wine

Although it may seem like a modern style, rosé wine has deep historical roots. In ancient times, many wines were made with light macerations, resulting in wines that today we would consider rosés. France, especially Provence, has been one of the great promoters of the modern style, transforming rosé into an elegant, fresh drink associated with the Mediterranean lifestyle. In Spain, regions such as Navarra, Cigales, and Catalonia have traditionally been major producers of rosés, and today they produce wines that combine tradition and modern enology. The growing international demand has driven numerous producers to bet on high-quality rosés, positioning them as wines capable of competing with whites and reds in complexity and prestige. Today, rosé is associated with freshness, modernity, gastronomy, and versatility.

Rosé wine varieties and styles

The grape variety determines much of the style of rosé. Among the most used:
• Garnacha – fruity, fresh, and balanced, very typical in Navarra and Catalonia.
• Tempranillo – provides softness, fruit, and moderate body.
• Syrah – offers aromatic intensity and floral notes.
• Monastrell – produces more structured rosés with Mediterranean character.
• Pinot Noir – elegant, delicate, with subtle red fruit notes.
• Merlot – smooth, round, and very aromatic.

Styles can range from very pale and dry Provence-style rosés to gastronomic rosés with volume or semi-sweet versions for those who prefer a softer touch.

Reference winemakers

Spain has outstanding producers such as Chivite, Otazu, Enate, Gramona, and Raventós i Blanc, who have established highly prestigious rosés. On the international scene, Provence rosés —such as Miraval, Minuty, or Whispering Angel— stand out for their elegance, aromatic purity, and characteristic pale color. Each producer brings their interpretation of the rosé style, combining tradition, innovation, and respect for origin to create fresh wines full of personality.

Tasting and pairing rosé wine

Rosé wine is one of the most gastronomically versatile wines:
• Light and dry rosés: ideal as an aperitif, with tapas, salads, or sushi.
• Gastronomic rosés: perfect for rice dishes, pasta, white meats, and Mediterranean dishes.
• Aromatic rosés: pair very well with Asian food, spiced dishes, or seafood.
• Semi-sweet rosés: work with desserts, mild cheeses, or slightly spicy dishes.

This versatility ensures there is always a rosé suitable for every time of day and any occasion.
